Christmas Special at Hot Breads, Gopalapuram

Wondering why the title is so? It’s because it’s Christmas time and Hot Breads is all about yummy bakes, right?
But no, this title is for another reason – Hot breads hosted a Christmas Special tasting session for us, fellow bloggers and social media influencers. Also, because they have decided to help building Chennai from the recent flood disaster through their ‘ShareNCare‘ initiative. Let’s come back to this later.

This outlet of Hot Breads is supposedly the biggest one in Chennai. It’s a two-floored building hosting Hot breads and Don Pepe together. Both are managed by the same management so they are treated as one. Dedicatedly, ground floor is for hot breads while the first is for the expert in mexican cuisine, Don Pepe. The whole place, right now, is done up with pretty christmasy stuffs. The meet was organised in the first floor.

I was late to the meet as usual and hence, missed some of the information that was given about the Christmas special menu. But that’s okay since I got to taste all of it!
A table had all of the special bakes displayed and they looked so tempting that I couldn’t wait to hog on them. Simultaneously, we were also served beverages. I opted for a coffee and my cappuccino was great to start with. Soon after all the talks were done (about which I will write at the end), we started doing what we do best – Eat. Everyone came to the table with an empty plate in their hand and went back to their places with a plate beautifully decorated with cakes.

How did each one taste?
Premium Plum cake – This is made of only raisins and plum. It was good. Had enough flavors & aroma but somehow I felt it lacked the punch. If you’re a plum cake lover then this is definitely something you’d love.
Minced Pies – This is one of those items I saw for the first time. It was very unique looking just like it’s name. And no, it’s not made of meat. This minced pie is made of fruits. Had a crusty outer layer and jelly like inner layer. I loved the outer crust but the jelly was a tad too sweet for my liking.
Dundee cake – To me, this was the best of the lot among these dry cakes. This cake is made of dry fruits. Looked really simple, like tea cakes, but tasted amazing. I totally loved it.
Walnut Cake – Decent.

Apart from these dry cakes, we also got to sample two of their other Christmas special items – Chocoalate Mousse and Cappuccino Mousse.
Chocolate mousse tasted good but again, a bit too sweet for my palate. For chocolate lovers, this is a must try.
Cappuccino mousse in total contrast to Chocolate version was light, had very mild sweetness and more salty. This was the saving grace from all the sweetness we hogged. It was the perfect change after having so many sweet items. Had a strong coffee flavor and tasted extra-ordinarily yummy. A must try for all.

This was the event we were invited for but since our plate was filled with desserts, we all wanted a change, some savory dish to save us from diabetes and hence we ordered some from Hot breads fast food menu and some from Don Pepe menu.

White sauce veg pasta – Since all these were ordered by each person, they served everything in a perfect portion size for one. Had a spoonful of this and loved it. I liked my white sauce pasta creamy and this tasted exactly like that.
Margarita Pizza – Fresh Pan pizza overloaded with cheese. It tasted as good as it looked, quite heavy to the stomach.
Chicken Nachos – THE BEST NACHOS I’VE HAD YET. It was just too yummy. Cheesy, ample amount of chicken keema and mushrooms on top with some veggies. Creamy. The nachos were crispy. Perfect combination. I’m sure going back there, just for this.
Crumb fried non-veg platter – No, this isn’t the name in the menu. I cant recall the name right now. It’s in the starters. You can choose either chicken or prawns, I asked for a mix. The dish was quite okay. Served with fries and salad, it was filling.

Oh, this was not it. We were also given a box of happiness to carry back home, which my lil sister gobbled happily.
