Dilwale – Movie Review

Dilwale

Directed by: Rohit Shetty
Lead Actors: SRK, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon
Music director: Pritam Chakraborty

Yes yes, I went to watch this movie too! Just for the comeback of my favorite actress – Kajol! ❤ Went with an expectation for a disaster but it was quite a surprise. Read on.

Summary
The story starts with showing an unconditional love of a very seedha-saada aam aadmi, Raj (SRK) for his brother Veer (Varun Dhawan) who in turn comes across a very beautiful lady Ishita (Kriti Sanon) and falls in love with her. Raj runs a car modification shop with his brother. From here, the story goes back 15yrs in time to show the flashback of Raj a.k.a Kaali who was a gangster and how he met Meera (Kajol). They fall in love and then depart. The movie is about how Kaali became Raj, what happens to Veer-Ishita’s love story and where does Meera disappear.

Now coming to pros and cons of the movie, here’re some points:

  • The unconditional love between the two brothers they show in the starting looks too fake and unreal. (meri choti behen agar varun jaisi harkatein karti, mai toh do-chaar kasske chaante maarti, SRK jaise ‘ale mela baby bro’ nahi)
  • SRK’s over-acting oozes out every time he tries to be the seedha-saada insaan.
  • Varun Dhawan has totally accompanied his older brother here, i.e., SRK when it came to over-acting. (ekdum apne bade bhai pe gaya hai)
  • Kriti Sanon was at her natural best. I haven’t watched her first movie Hero yet but I totally loved her in this movie. (bhaisaab itni lambi hai ye auraat, shuru hoke khatam hi nahi hoti)
  • Kajol’s first look is awestruckingly beautiful. But she being super white was a bit weird. Dusky suits her more. (call me racist or whatevs)
  • SRK and Kajol trying to look and act 15 years younger (in the flashback) is annoying as fuck. Especially Kajol’s.
  • In the flashback, Kajol looked the best whenever her mouth was sealed. The moment she started to throw the dialogues and act, it was a disaster. (wo kehte hai na, kuch log tabhi achhe lagte hai jabtak muh nahi kholte, waisa)
  • SRK’s acting is the same throughout and like every other movie of his. No change whatsoever.
  • Most of first half of the movie looks too fake and artificial. Second half is good.
  • If you survive the first half, you will definitely be happy to stay back for the second.
  • There are two very ‘unpredictable‘ twists.
  • A lot of hilarious jokes throughout. Second half does have some laugh-worthy jokes though.
  • Supporting actors have acted really well. (much better than the leads, I would say)
  • Being a Rohit Shetty film, it was a total surprise that not too many cars were blasted. Very minimal. Maybe because all the cars shown in this movie are high end ones. (ab bmw, audi ye sab udane me thodi taklif toh hoti hi hai)
  • The movie was more like that of Karan Johar’s rather than Rohit Shetty’s.
  • Most frames look artificial with too many colors. Even SRK’s house is a colorblast, straight out of some Cinderella fairy-tale types.
  • If you’re going for the movie just to see your fav B-pair SRK-Kajol weave their magic once again, then bear the first half.
  • Oh, and about the story (you must be like – Rohit Shetty ke movie me story ka bol rahi hai, ye chu hai kya), but, wait, unlike all other movies of his, Dilwale DOES HAVE A STORY.
  • Last but not the least, it’s worth a watch. The trick is to expect the movie to be a disastrous one.
  • What you learn from the movie?

ACT. YOUR. AGE !

Rating: 2/5

After watching the chemistry between Deepika-Ranbir in Tamasha and then Deepika-Ranveer in Bajirao Mastani, SRK-Kajol chemistry looks very pheeka.

Well, Sweety! I was planning to watch this movie, but went through the reviews and decided that I’d rather die in a ditch with my arms around Osama Bin Laden than be found in a cinema hall showing Dilwale.

Sometimes I wonder what SRK thinks he’s doing! A great review, which actually matches what the world thinks. Great job! 🙂
